Welcome to Manchester Women's Design Group (WDG)

Since 1987, Women’s Design Service has been organising research and training with communities on the impact of regeneration and development projects on women. With funding from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), it has now set up a regional group in Manchester, hopefully the first of several across the country.

The Manchester WDG is constituted as an independent voluntary association with a Management Committee. The aim is for the WDG to become expert advisors on how to ensure that women’s perspectives are not overlooked in the design of buildings and public space. This is important due to continuing male dominance among planners, architects and decision-makers.

The WDG is a diverse group and welcomes women from across Greater Manchester who would enjoy learning about this important topic in a supportive, friendly environment. Some are professionally involved in the issues as planners, architects, park wardens, housing association employees etc., but most come out of personal interest.

No experience needed!

The WDG meets monthly at an accessible venue in Manchester city centre.

The next meeting is 4-6pm on Tuesday November 6th in Committee room 4 of Manchester Town Hall (first floor of main building, Lloyd St entrance).
